I spent a lot of time before making a decision to go forward with this, in fact I consulted two other physicians and did not feel comfortable with either one. I did my research online and checked out his credentials as well as his experience. I've actually walked into the wrong room. Last August, in 2008, I called for an appointment, followed by the first surgery on the 2nd of October, 2008. Three weeks later we did the other eye.The only problem I had was due to my nearsightedness, I had to wear half a pair of glasses during the interim between the two surgeries which was a little disconcerting. But once the second eye had been done, everything was wonderful. I'm so grateful to have my vision restored to the extent that it has been. I can read anything I pick up, including fine print. I can see clearly at a distance. I drive. For the first time in my life since high school, I've been without glasses, other than sunglasses, of course.It's something I never, ever thought I would be able to enjoy. David D. Richardson, MD
Medical director and surgeon
After graduating with top honors from the University of Southern California (USC), Dr. Richardson received a prestigious Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship to attend Harvard Medical School. While in medical school, he accepted a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health to study visual cognition. Dr. Richardson then completed an internal medicine internship at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, which was followed by ophthalmology training at LAC+USC/Doheny Eye Institute in Los Angeles—one of the top ophthalmology residencies in the country.
Trained in the most Advanced Cataract Surgery Techniques
Dr. Richardson joined SGVEye in 1999 and became San Gabriel’s first ophthalmologist to use such modern technologies as the accommodating Crystalens. He has performed over 2,000 cataract surgeries.
A teacher as well as a surgeon
A highly regarded, accomplished surgeon, Dr. Richardson is also a volunteer faculty member at USC, where he teaches ophthalmology residents how to perform advanced cataract surgery.
Dr. Richardson is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology.
